Walcha Show Society Honorary Life Member

Hazel was a long-term and deeply valued supporter of the Walcha Show Society, dedicating nearly 30 years of service. She became a member of the Society in 1984, later serving as a Steward in the Preserves, Jams and Jellies Section from 1994, and was appointed Chief Steward of the section in 2008. In 1996, Hazel was appointed Vice President of the Ladies Committee, before serving as their President from 1997 to 2000. From 2003 to 2020, she also held the role of Assistant Chief Pavilion Steward, contributing tirelessly to the success of the Walcha Show. Hazel’s great passion was competing with her award-winning condiments and chutneys. She achieved outstanding success at both the Newcastle Regional Show and at the Sydney Royal Easter Show between 1999 and 2009 during which she earned 12 first-place ribbons and 15 second-place ribbons. In 2003, Hazel was presented with the prestigious Standard of Excellence Award at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, recognising an exhibit judged to be of outstanding quality and the most meritorious in its class. Her much-loved Plum Rum Chutney recipe was later published in The Country Show Cookbook, sharing her talent with a wider audience. Following her retirement from the role of Chief Stewardess, Hazel was awarded Honorary Life Membership in 2023, in recognition of her outstanding and significant contribution to the Walcha Show Society. Hazel gave her time, dedication, and support endlessly and with compassion. She was well respected, inspirational, and a valued mentor and friend to many involved in the Walcha Show. Her legacy lives on through the Hazel Cameron Memorial Trophy, awarded to the most successful exhibitor in the condiment section and generously donated by the Cameron Family.
